North Wiltshire Conservatives

The North Wiltshire Conservative Association represents Conservative party members in north Wiltshire’s parliamentary constituency. It aims at ensuring Conservative representations at every level of government.

Constituency

From 1st of January, the boundaries of the Association have been allied with the revised constituency which is expected to come into effect from next General Election. Except Corsham and Chippenham, everything that was covered before would be covered in the new constituency. It would be inclusive of Wootton Bassett, Malmesbury, and Calne.

County and District Councils

The division of the constituency takes place in wards. Every ward elects district councilor for the ‘North Wiltshire District Council’. Wards are further grouped to form divisions. Every Division elects county councilor to the ‘Wiltshire County Council’. Interval between two elections is four years. Conservatives have been exercising their control on The District Council since May 2005. Wiltshire County Council has also been Conservative controlled since then.

Membership

By becoming the Association’s and party’s member, the individual is entitled to take part in its activities. These activities can be social or political, at local or Association branch level. The person needs to be over 14 years of age to avail of this membership.

Branches

Majority of fund raising and social activities of the constituency are carried out by branches. It has been opined by many members that such activities give vent to sufficient involvement amongst friends. The branch events have been kept open for every member of the association. These branches are formed on the basis of constituency wards. Committees are formed in order to run branches. The responsibility of branch is to be in touch with the members by the way of social events. Organization of local activities also takes place during elections.

Political Supper Club

An unofficial political discussion is held every month. It generally takes place in some or the other inn. James Gray chairs this discussion. Women’s Luncheon Club

As of now, the membership of the Women’s Luncheon Club has reached the 100-mark. The members meet every month, except August and January. Patrons’ Club

The club’s aim is providing sound finances by the way of increased subscription. These finances go to the Association. Club members get invitations to Dinners and Lunches at the House of Lords or Commons and dinners and drink parties at well-known local venues. These patrons are associated with The National Patrons Club that holds many additional events.
