About CVS North Wiltshire

CVS is an abbreviation for Council for Voluntary Service which is a registered charity in North Wiltshire managed by the Board of Trustees. Paid staff and volunteers run this charity. The main objective of this charity is to provide support and development in North Wiltshire. They also represent the voluntary and community action in the district of North Wiltshire. This charity is funded by Wiltshire County Council, Wiltshire Primary Care Trust and another trust of the North Wiltshire District Council.

Council for Voluntary Service North Wiltshire acts as a traditional Council for Voluntary Service but other than that it also runs other projects. In 2003, CVSNW joined hands with The Salvation Army in order to build a centre for the homeless, now it is become a permanent project named Doorway. The CVSNW acquired a commission in order to run a Council for Voluntary service in the Bath and North East Somerset areas (BANES CVS).

The Council for Voluntary Service also co-operates with other CVS charity organizations in Kennet, West Wiltshire, Swindon and Salisbury. This charity also works with other agencies that represent local and regional government, social concerns like health and education and other voluntary organizations. The CVS provides free membership. Presently, there are 147 full members ranging from the local community to the regional branches of national charities.

Development done by CVS

Council for Voluntary Service works along with local population and organizations in order to identify the shortcomings that are encountered in services. It develops new improved services that reflect the requirements that are not being fulfilled. This charity is able to give flexible and enthusiastic support to the upcoming community and voluntary projects and other organizations until all of them become independent. Information and support are given to people via telephone or a face to face conversion.

Communication

The Council for Voluntary Service keeps an information database and also has a public library. The local voluntary groups are kept informed of developments in political, financial and other concerned fields. This is done through their regular newsletter, fortnightly e-bulletin and the Network. It is necessary to do so because these changes may affect them.

Specialist Training

CVSNW runs a training program which is specifically altered to suit the needs of the two sectors that is voluntary and community. It also offers a customized type of training whenever required.

Representation of the sectors

The Council for Voluntary Service makes sure that the sectors are heard and the local groups receive empowerment in order to participate in partnership with the statutory agencies.

Centre

The CVSNWS promotes volunteering opportunities over the national volunteering website-www.do-it.org.uk. They also do it locally for instance in the newspapers like the Gazette and Herald.

Support

The Council for Voluntary Service offers varied kinds of support services to all the members and pre-existing voluntary organizations. They provide simple practical help concerning office services like photocopying services. The CVS staff is skilled and experienced. They are available to give support to any kind of voluntary action.
